Federer and the broken dream. It tris Djokovic in four sets – La Gazzetta dello Sport

Novak Djokovic won for the third time in his career Wimbledon, the third round of the Grand Slam. The Serb, world No. 1 and top seed, defeated the Swiss Roger Federer, number two of the ATP rankings and seeded, with a score of 7-6 (1) 6-7 (10) 6-4 6- 3 in two hours and 55 minutes. For Djokovic, the defending champion on the grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis Club and Crocquet, it is the ninth major of his career, the 54th in total. Big disappointment for Federer, who must postpone the appointment with the eighth victory at the Championships and 18th major. The Swiss played the tenth final at Wimbledon where he has a record of seven wins and three defeats. It was not a final compelling as that of last year, but for the first two sets the level of play was very high. The Serb has virtually committed unforced errors (16 in 4 sets) and was very solid in the two most important shots on the grass: the service and response. A Federer when it lacked the service with which he made only 14 ace closing with 67% of first fielded a realization of 74% on the first and 49% with the second. The fate allowed Federer to start the match at the Swiss service and closed to zero with an ace and two service winners.

September 1 – The king of Wimbledon 7 times seemed much more on the ball and very responsive, in spite of first serves were very few; 3-2 Federer ripped a zero to the beat Nole placing winning two answers and a passer fulminant. But the 4-2, the Swiss returned immediately break. Federer came at 6-5 for 2 times the set point, but Djokovic saved two first winning the tie-break and dominated the Swiss closed for 7 points to 1.

September 2 – The match took off in the second set: the 2 equal Djokovic saved two break points, on 4-5 Federer faced successfully a set point (straight down to Nole) and 5 all was still the Serbs to save a ball that would have sent Federer to serve for the set (forehand into the net of the Swiss). The tie-break was the best moment of the entire meeting; three initial minibreak then Nole on until 6-3. Here Federer put a service winner, then conquered a long exchange at the bottom and, on the service of Nole, annulled the third consecutive set points (fourth in total) when Djokovic put out a straight. Nole not even closed on September 5 point (at 7-6, winning serve to Federer), the Swiss missed the first 8-7 (winning service Nole) and then Djokovic wasted the sixth and seventh sull’9- 8 (forehand winner Federer) and 10-9 (straight wrong of Serbia). In the end it was 11-10 on Federer take home the set thanks to the error of that Nole put out.

September 3 – In the third set Federer saved two break points immediately (15-40), then missed a ball of 2-0 (forehand error) and suffered the break wrong with a straight nose over the net. 3-2 and service for Nole came the rain that interrupted the match by 20 minutes, but the roof was closed. Federer went 15-30 on the resumption of service Nole, then the two held to zero the following four innings with Nole flying ahead 2 sets to 1.

September 4 – In September 4 Federer held up to 2 equal, then Nole was a break. 3-4 Federer relied on two service winners to clear 2 opportunities they would send Nole to serve for the match. But Novak, to serve for the match could not reach because Federer, on 3-5, still losing the joke themselves to the Serbs. For Nole is the ninth Grand Slam title (5 Australian Open, Wimbledon and a third US Open). Federer has lost the 9 Grand Slam final, the third here at Wimbledon after that of 2008 and 2014 against Nadal against Djokovic.
