Help or not the drivers of Ducati? – BBC

Milan , February 5, 2016 – 22:42

Stoner yes, Stoner no, maybe Stoner. The return to the track of the great Australian has obtained the effect that only the champions know cause: to divide. And the question in the paddock, among critics and among the fans is clear: Stoner at Ducati is good or not?

Gigi Dall’Igna, dg Ducati Corse, has no doubts: Stoner is still a champion, knows how to bring the bike to the limit, and stress it as most of the riders, and its indications are essential. The syllogism in short, is obvious: the good ones always used in every field; Stoner is very good; ergo, it is good for the Red Army. But if we ask the Ducati riders it is likely we would get different answers. In Sepang, the only one that has held up without problems – also because it is the only one who has nothing to lose – was the great Danilo Petrucci, constantly growing. But the officers? Iannone, who is the reference rider in the box after the excellent 2015, has made a brave face, Dovizioso has appeared much less conciliatory and even the other test driver Michele Pirro seemed puzzled. The conclusion is that the operation against Stoner are perceived in the red dressing as superior to Pro. But why?

Apart from the destabilizing power of charisma and palmarés , Stoner is a unique case of a test that is very strong, too well, and you know that there is no worse enemy a pilot of a colleague who gives him pay with the same bike. Also you may have doubts about its real technical contribution to development: Casey has always been a wild horse, his perception of the limits is very personal, as a guide him over the problems nobody does, and in the past we have seen that the bikes that worked for him did not do it for others. Sure you can transmit all its know-how to others? And sure when he argues that this Desmosedici has world title more than helping Iannone and Dovizioso is not putting pressure on them?

Among the many doubts, certainly there that Stoner will not do the test Phillip Island (17-19 February) and will return to Losail in Qatar on March 2-4 for the last pre-season event. And of course there is also the very powerful impact of his return on the image of Ducati. That maybe, deep down, is hoping to convince him to return to racing in 2017. After all, Dall’Igna in Sepang Stoner said that if were to ask to run in the first race in Qatar on March 20 they would give him the chance, unlike what made the Honda last year when the Australian churches in vain to replace injured Pedrosa. For now, the champion said he will not ask to race in Qatar (at most could do one or two wild card below), but if he asked to go back to the pilot “real” in 2017? Here the situation is different, because this year expiring contracts of riders. Stoner in the race for Ducati in 2017 would be a great blow, and in Borgo Panigale stapperebbero champagne. In the meantime, however, there is all this season to race, possibly returning to win a Grand Prize that is missing from the Red October 17, 2010 in Australia, guess who. The heavy task, until proven otherwise, it’s up to Iannone and Dovizioso. And a kangaroo as ballast will help them go faster.
