Another medal for Italy in the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Doha. The Azzurri (Luca Dotto, Marco Orsi, Filippo Magnini and Marco Belotti) win bronze in the relay 4×50 freestyle with a time of 1’24 male closing “56 behind Russia (new World record in 1’22″ 60) and the United States. Down from the podium by a whisker in the relay 4×50 sl mixed composed Luca Dotto, Marco Orsi, Siliva Di Pietro and Erika Ferraiolo. Gold and World record for the US in 1’28 “57, silver and bronze to Russia to Brazil. Enters Final Erika Ferraioli in the 50 freestyle with the sixth time (24″ 10). Convinces Ilaria Bianchi, fifth in the semifinals of the 100 butterfly. The last act of the 50 frog accessed Fabio Scozzoli with the eighth and final time for the qualification.
They come out of the scene, however, Arianna Barbieri in the 50 backstroke (27 “01), Luca Dotto in 100 freestyle (47 “26), Silvia Di Pietro in 50 sl (24″ 37), Elena Di Liddo in the 100 butterfly (57 “45) and Andrea Toniato in the 50 breaststroke (26″ 52).
In the 100 breaststroke the Jamaican Alia Atkinson takes sweet revenge by winning gold and beating Rūta Meilutytė, big favorite. Florent Manadou breaks down to 22 “22 the world record in the 50 backstroke triumphing in front of Eugene Godsoe and Stanislav Donetc. Third gold for South African Chad Le Clos who also wins in the 50 butterfly while Katinka Hosszu falls poker triumphing in the 200m medley.
