Aprica Alberto Contador has now got his hands on the Giro d’Italy. It never seemed in question, but the evidence he offered in Pinzolo-Aprica stage, 174 km long and includes five climbs, among them the terrible Mortirolo Pass, was nothing short of superb.

Sunday Contador had already proved to be the strongest in Madonna di Campiglio, but on the Mortirolo he gave further evidence, cleaving dell’Astana duo composed by Mikel Landa and Fabio Aru. After a start in the rain, the group arrived at the foot of the Mortirolo with Contador that is reported off, as has been the victim of a puncture. The Astana, helped by Katusha of Trofimov, has started to force the pace because the captain of the Tinkoff-Saxo remained without companions. After a few kilometers from the start of the climb began the show by Alberto, which imposes its own rhythm and takes one by one all the riders of the leading group. A scene that reminded a lot to Marco Pantani to Oropa in 1999 when, after being the victim of a chain jump, shoot everyone and won the stage alone.

After returning to the lead group and only Contador attacked Landa managed to keep up closely with the Dutch Kruijswijk. While the three proceed paired begins the ordeal of Fabio Aru, who is the victim of a very bad crisis. Staccato than two minutes in the top of the Cima Pantani, Sardinian fails to return even downhill, and on the final of Aprica lose further ground. His companion Landa gets the win, and at this point taking questions on tactics dell’Astana: it was no longer just run with two captains, or focus on Landa addition of Aru? Contador settles for third place; for him it’s okay, because Aru comes with a delay of 2’51 “and slips in 3rd place in the overall standings. Now the pink jersey has just over 4 minutes ahead of Landa: Contador victory in hand. Today (Live Rai Sport1 and Eurosport from 14) will be the Tirano-Lugano, for sprinters. Viviani has plans to consolidate the red jersey, and no doors Sky will point to the stage win.
